Known as Bill or Billy to close friends and family, Bill was introduced to fencing at around age 7 at an after-school program run by OES. Ed Korfanty had just recently moved to Oregon as head coach and Billy was one of his first students. Bill started in foil, then eventually switched over to sabre. Bill says he is fortunate to have had Ed as his coach since his first day of fencing.
